Customer Case Study | Design, Manufacturing and Delivery
Customer Location: India
Product: Custom Salt Bath Furnace Fixture
Application: Bearing Heat Treatment
Fixture Type: Multi-Layer Salt Bath Furnace Tooling

Manufacturer: Wuxi Junteng Fanghu Alloy Technology Co., Ltd. (FH® Alloy)
Project Overview
FH® Alloy received an inquiry from an Indian customer for a customized salt bath furnace fixture used for bearing heat treatment.
The customer provided the basic operating parameters of the salt bath furnace, the required fixture size limits, the loading capacity per batch, the working temperature, the heating and quenching media, and the product size range. Based on this information, FH® Alloy completed the fixture design, prepared the final 3D drawing, manufactured the fixture, and arranged shipment to the customer.
This project is a typical example of custom fixture engineering based on actual furnace conditions, where the customer did not simply request a standard basket or tray, but needed a fixture specifically matched to the working environment of a salt bath pit furnace.
Customer Requirements
The Indian customer provided the following key project information for the salt bath furnace fixture:
| Item | Requirement |
| Furnace Type | Salt Bath Pit Furnace |
| Salt Bath Pot Internal Diameter | 850 mm |
| Salt Bath Pot Depth | 1060 mm |
| Maximum Fixture Height | 900 mm |
| Maximum Fixture Diameter | 750 mm |
| Maximum Working Temperature | 900°C |
| Heating Media | Neutral Salt |
| Quenching Media | Nitrite-Based Salt |
| Required Layers | 2 layers |
| Load per Layer | 80–100 kg |
| Net Product Weight per Lot | 150–200 kg |
| Salt Bath Capacity per Lot (with fixture) | 300–350 kg |
| Product Type | Bearings |
| Bearing Size Range | 100–500 mm |
| Quantity | 10 sets |
The customer required a fixture suitable for handling bearing products in the size range of 100 mm to 500 mm, with each fixture designed to carry 2 layers, and each layer supporting approximately 80–100 kg.
Engineering Challenge
This project required more than simple size matching. The fixture had to be designed according to the actual operating conditions of a salt bath furnace, which introduced several important engineering considerations.
1. Space Limitation of the Salt Bath Pot
The salt bath pot had an internal diameter of 850 mm and a depth of 1060 mm, while the customer required the fixture to remain within:
This meant the fixture structure had to make efficient use of the available space while maintaining enough clearance for loading, lifting and safe furnace operation.
2. Load Requirement
The customer required each fixture to carry:
In addition, the total load in the salt bath with fixture was expected to be around 300–350 kg per lot. The design therefore needed to ensure sufficient structural strength without making the fixture excessively heavy.
3. High Temperature and Salt Bath Environment
The fixture would work at a maximum temperature of 900°C in a neutral salt heating medium, followed by use in nitrite-based salt during quenching.
This environment places strict demands on the fixture in terms of:
4. Bearing Product Arrangement
The treated products were bearings ranging from 100 mm to 500 mm in size. The fixture therefore needed a rational loading structure that could support different bearing sizes while maintaining good spacing and stable positioning.
FH® Alloy’s Design Solution
Based on the customer’s requirements, FH® Alloy designed a multi-layer circular salt bath furnace fixture suitable for the specified furnace conditions and product loading needs.
The final design features a vertical structure with:
Multi-Layer Structure
The customer requested 2 layers, but the design concept also needed to consider the relationship between fixture height, layer spacing, product size and operational convenience.
FH® Alloy optimized the structure to create a practical loading arrangement inside the limited furnace space.
Circular Layout for Salt Bath Pot Compatibility
Because the salt bath pot is cylindrical, a circular fixture layout is more suitable than a square basket structure. FH® Alloy therefore adopted a round, layered fixture concept that better fits the pot geometry and improves use of the available diameter.
Stable Load Distribution
The radial support pattern was designed to distribute product weight across the structure and improve load-bearing stability during operation.
Handling Convenience
The upper lifting section was incorporated into the design to facilitate lifting, loading and unloading of the fixture in actual production use.
From Requirement Sheet to Final 3D Drawing
This project clearly demonstrates FH® Alloy’s ability to convert customer requirement data into a practical engineering design.
The project workflow included:
Customer Requirement Information
→ Furnace Condition Analysis
→ Fixture Structure Design
→ 3D Drawing Preparation
→ Manufacturing
→ Inspection
→ Shipment
The second image provided by the customer listed the furnace size limits, load requirements and process conditions. Based on these inputs, FH® Alloy completed the final fixture structure design shown in the first image.
This 3D design then became the basis for production.
Manufacturing and Delivery
After the design was confirmed, FH® Alloy proceeded with manufacturing and completed the production of the salt bath furnace fixtures according to the approved structure.
The project scope included:
The completed fixtures were manufactured for the customer’s salt bath bearing heat treatment application and shipped as a finished custom project.
