Why Choose FH® Multi-Chamber Furnace Baskets?
1. Designed for Sealed Quench Furnace Demands
| Challenge | FH® Solution |
| Carburizing atmosphere (carbon penetration) | High-silicon alloys (1.4849) + pre-oxidation |
| Thermal shock (hot to oil quench) | Stress-relieved construction + rounded corners |
| Stacking multiple baskets | Precision stacking feet + flat surfaces |
| Automatic manipulator loading | Consistent pick-up points, smooth edges |
| Heavy loads at high temperature | Reinforced ribs + high creep strength material |
2. Material Selection Guide
| Material | Max Temp | Best For |
| 310S | 950°C | General carburizing, moderate loads, budget-conscious |
| 1.4828 | 1000°C | Higher temperature, good anti-carburization |
| 1.4849 | 1050°C | Heavy loads, long cycles, aggressive carburizing |
3. Design Features That Matter
| Feature | Benefit |
| Reinforced bottom grid | Supports heavy parts without sagging |
| Stacking feet with alignment pins | Stable stacking – no tipping during transfer |
| Smooth, spatter-free welds | No part damage, no scale adhesion |
| Rounded corners | Reduces stress concentration |
| Optimized open area | Good gas circulation + strength balance |
| Pre-oxidized surface | Forms protective oxide layer |
4. Thermal Shock Resistance
Multi-chamber furnace baskets experience extreme thermal cycles:
FH® heat treatment baskets are stress-relieved after welding and use ductile alloys to survive these cycles without cracking.

FAQ:
Q1: How long will an FH® basket last in a carburizing multi-chamber furnace?
A: Typical service life: 310S – 200–300 cycles; 1.4849 – 400–600 cycles. Life depends on temperature, load weight, and maintenance. Regular cleaning (every 50–80 cycles) and avoiding overloading extend life significantly.
Q2: What material do you recommend for a 930°C carburizing furnace with oil quench?
A: For 930°C with oil quench, we recommend 1.4849. It offers the best combination of creep strength, anti-carburization, and thermal shock resistance. 310S is acceptable for lower loads or shorter cycles but will have shorter life.
Q3: How do I prevent the basket from cracking due to thermal shock?
A: FH® baskets are designed with thermal shock in mind: stress-relieved welds, rounded corners, and ductile alloys. To maximize life, avoid quenching the basket empty (load should cover the basket surface) and ensure even part distribution.
Q4: Can your baskets be used with automatic manipulators?
A: Yes. We design consistent pick-up points, smooth edges, and stacking features that work with robotic or manipulator loading. Provide your handling equipment specifications for optimized design.
Q5: What is your warranty?
A: 12 months against manufacturing defects (weld cracks, material flaws). Normal wear, creep, carburization, and thermal fatigue are not covered – but FH® will recommend the right material for your conditions.
